Preventive Maintenance Wards off Big Repair Bills
(Adapted The Arizona Republic Article from Gannett News Service)
You've heard the saying, "You've got to spend money to make money." Although that might be true in business, when it comes to our homes, spending money can save money in the long run, lots of money.
In our constant quest for a no or low maintenance lifestyle, a lot of us drop the ball when it comes to preventative maintenance of our home. Little things you do now can prevent big bills now and later on. You should periodically inspect your house for potential problems.
To begin, go where you never go, for example your attic or roof. In the attic, look for signs of rain damage and pests. If you're not handy or don't have time, hire someone to check for you. Inspect your roof for missing or damaged shingles. Use binoculars and stand in your yard if you need to.
Also, turn on faucets and check under sinks for leaks. If you have a swimming pool, check to make sure that the water pressure in the pump is correct and that there is no leak.
Have your air-conditioner serviced before you need it every day and around the clock. During an air-conditioning tune-up, a technician will oil the motor, clean the coils, check operating pressures of the refrigerant, tighten all of the electrical connections, test all of the electrical components, and clean and drain the line.
Consider hiring a home inspector to thoroughly inspect your home for any defaults that may be currently costing you money unnecessarily and which you will need to fix before you sell your home. Please call me at 602-628-3077 or e-mail me for the names of licensed and qualified home inspectors.
